How to get started

We are currently hiring for Associate Therapist positions to start in the spring of 2024.

Please note that you must have completed your Master’s degree and have your Associate number (AMFT, APCC, ACSW) before we can hire you. Once you have applied to the BBS for your Associate number, we will be happy to consider your application for our upcoming openings.

For information or questions about employment opportunities or to apply for an associateship at BAPTI, please email director@bapti.org. Please send a resume and cover email or letter outlining why you are interested in working at BAPTI (including if you intend to go into private practice once you’re licensed), where you are in your training, and if you have your associate number (or when you applied for it). Note that we will ask for several professional and/or academic references as part of the hiring process, but it is not necessary to include these with your application.

About BAPTI

BAPTI is a non-profit organization founded in 1993. We provide supportive, high-quality training to pre-licensed psychotherapists while providing sliding-scale therapy services to clients in local communities in the SF East Bay and by telehealth throughout California.

BAPTI is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applicants with diverse backgrounds and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for employees as well as for the clients we serve. Applicants who identify as BIPOC, LGBTQIAATS+, those with disabilities, and other therapists who are committed to serving a diverse client population are encouraged to apply.

BAPTI as a private practice incubator

BAPTI employs a rotating cohort of eight pre-licensed therapists and we hire continuously to fill upcoming vacancies, which occur when current staff become licensed and transition into private practice. We seek exceptional applicants who possess a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology or another appropriate degree from an accredited university program. Our Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapists (AMFTs) and Registered Associate Professional Clinical Counselors (APCCs) Associates have a passion for helping the community while developing their skills as a therapist in private practice.

BAPTI utilizes a private practice model that provides training and support for pre-licensed psychotherapists and guides them in developing their clinical skills as well as marketing and managing their own practices in preparation for licensure. We also have a school-based program that supports therapists in creating alliances with schools and accruing additional hours toward licensure, while supporting young people in our community.

Benefits of being an associate with BAPTI

BAPTI offers the following to our pre-licensed team:

  • Guidance, support and training to develop the clinical and business skills required to launch a successful private practice.

  • Client referrals, office space and marketing support to help you to attract a caseload of paying clients, which you will retain upon licensure.

  • The ability to begin seeing clients within your first weeks of joining BAPTI, and to earn a percentage of your client fee revenue as you build your caseload.

  • You retain your clients when you get licensed: in addition to accruing hours toward licensure, you have the opportunity to start your private practice with a full caseload.

  • A page on BAPTI’s website to promote your growing practice, with a link to your professional website, developed in consultation with your individual supervisor.

  • Free weekly individual and group supervision (group meets Tuesdays from 9-11am) throughout your time accruing hours, plus free access to BAPTI’s continuing education training events.

  • Free access to SimplePractice, which allows you to operate a paperless practice, including online scheduling, record-keeping, and billing.

  • The opportunity to join a supportive community of experienced, licensed therapists by remaining part of our community of affiliated therapists after you are licensed.
